At Lumbre Forest Lodge, we offer a curated selection of experiences within and beyond the hotel, designed to connect you with the forest, the coffee culture, and the environment that makes this place unique.

Experiences at Lumbre

These experiences can be enjoyed within Lumbre. Some require prior reservation and are subject to weather conditions. Please check availability with our team upon arrival.

Waterfalls

During your stay at Lumbre Forest Lodge, you will have the privilege of visiting two waterfalls hidden within the forest: one approximately 30 meters high and another around 10 meters, reached through a trail that crosses the natural landscape of the Cocora Valley.

The path, which takes about 30 minutes, leads into the cloud forest, where it is possible to observe birds, native vegetation, and the richness of the surrounding environment. At the end of the trail, the route leads to the two waterfalls that are part of Lumbre’s territory.

An experience included for our guests, designed to experience the forest from within at your own pace.

We recommend bringing water, comfortable clothing, and appropriate footwear for the hike, and of course, don’t forget your camera.

Wax Palm Tree Planting

The wax palm is Colombia’s iconic tree, and its main habitat is Cocora Valley. These palms have become famous worldwide as the tallest palms, reaching up to 80 meters. At Lumbre, we strive to conserve the beautiful landscapes of wax palms and regional flora. During your stay, you can contribute to this conservation effort by planting a palm or a native tree. This unique experience allows you to leave your legacy and learn more about the importance of this ecosystem.

Picnic

One of the services we most enjoy at Lumbre is a picnic within Cocora Valley in the comfort of our hotel, surrounded by incredible landscapes. You can choose a morning picnic brunch or an afternoon picnic with pizza and delicious wine. Lumbre offers a specially designed picnic menu, served in a traditional basket with a classic red and white checkered tablecloth and unique ambiance.

Campfire

At night, enjoy our cozy campfire beneath millions of stars. Request a blanket to lay down by the fire, gaze at the stars, roast marshmallows available among our snacks, and savor delightful wines as you share stories around the warmth of the fire. (This experience is subject to weather conditions.)

Experiences Outside Lumbre

These activities take place outside Lumbre. While the hotel does not directly manage or book them, we provide you with the necessary information and, in some cases, can assist with reservations to ensure you have the best possible experience during your visit.

Horseback Riding

This amazing experience takes you through the best landscapes of Cocora Valley on horseback, crossing rivers, mountains, wax palms, and cloud forests. Suitable for all ages, the tour lasts about 3.5 hours. Shorter rides of 1 or 2 hours in the upper valley are also available without prior reservation.

Personalized Horseback Riding: This specialized horseback ride requires prior reservation and includes guides (Spanish or English) who lead you through private lands, rivers, and mountains, culminating in a snack and toast atop the mountain known as “Elephant Rock.” This service is not provided by the hotel, but we connect our guests with reliable providers and offer recommendations.

Hike in Cocora Valley

Acaime is a nature reserve located at an altitude of 2,690 meters, accessible by horseback or a walking trail. This wonderful journey takes you through the famous cloud forest filled with wax palms, rivers, and hanging bridges. The hike takes around 5 hours round-trip (approximately 4 hours walking). Upon arrival, marvel at over 15 species of hummingbirds flying fearlessly just centimeters away. We recommend comfortable clothing, plenty of water, and hiking boots, especially during rainy seasons. This service is provided externally; we connect our guests with trusted providers.

Coffee Tour

Salento features various coffee farms where you can learn about coffee plantations, their planting and cultivation processes, participate in coffee picking, and conclude with a tasting. Tours are available in Spanish and English. If you wish, we can help arrange your reservation from the hotel.

Bird Watching

If you prefer to stay within the hotel premises, you can reserve a personalized bird-watching tour guided by two specialized guides. Explore a protected 6-hectare cloud forest trail, ending at two stunning waterfalls. Tours last approximately 3 hours and are scheduled when birds are most active: “Awakening with the Forest” (starting between 5-6 am) or “Twilight in the Mountain” (starting at 3:30 pm). The tour includes:

Immerse yourself in Colombian coffee culture by spending a day exploring Salento village. Wander through picturesque streets, enjoy coffee at local cafés, savor desserts in the main square, and absorb the town’s vibrant atmosphere. To enhance your experience, we offer a board with personalized tips on places to eat, where to grab a drink, streets and shops to explore, and more. Highlights include Calle Real, Alto de las Cruces viewpoint, and the cathedral.
